Teaching and research:
My teaching is primarily based on subjects related to physical geology and Geography, groundwater hydrology and water resource management. My research experience was focused on groundwater (quality and quantity) and my interests were principally concerned with hydrogeological, geochemical and geophysical assessment techniques related to the behaviour of groundwater and its occurrence in different geological (crystalline and sedimentary) and geographical settings. The ongoing research are on geochemistry of salinization of shallow groundwaters in selected areas of the Jaffna peninsula and the surrounding islands as well as monitoring of water quality in RO (Reverse Osmosis) plants. I am currently engaged in issues related to ‘water security’ in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka and promote my research focuses in areas such as environmental epidemiology.
