Course Module: Community Planning Project

Field Study Theme: Displacement and Resettlement
Participants: Students of the Bachelor of Arts in Community and Regional Planning, Department of Geography, University of Jaffna.
Study Area: Valikamam North Divisional Secretariat (Tellippalai), Jaffna District. Four Grama Niladari Divisions (J/250, J/251, J/241 and J/246 where the resettlement process have been taking place with the people who displaced from that areas since 1986.
Objective: Identify the issues and challenges of resettlements of the focused community through community interactions and discussions.

Methods Engaged in this Survey:
- Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach was used by the students to conduct this activity.
- CAP-WORKSHOP technique was applied to carry out need assessment.
- Follow-up: Students continue to work with stakeholders at the community level to propose a community development plan for the resettlement area of the Valikamam North Divisional Secretariat, Jaffna District, Sri Lanka.
