World Population Day Celebration – 2023

World Population Day, which falls on 11th July, was commemorated by the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna on 12th July 2023 at the seminar hall, Faculty of Arts, in aligning with the global theme  of “Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world’s infinite possibilities.”This event was coordinated by Miss.P.Bharathy, lecturer Department of Geography, collaborating with Level III 2nd semester Geography students.

The Chief Guest of the event was Dr.K.Kugabalan (Retired Professor in Geography). Prof P.Balasundarampillai (Emeritus Professor of Geography and Former Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna) and Prof. K.Suthakar (Professor in Geography and Former Dean, Faculty of Arts) participated as the Special Guests. Dr A.Antonyrajan (Head, Department of Geography), Chief Guest and  Special Guests were addressed the gathering. Dr. K. Kugabalan highlighted the ageing population  issues globally and locally in his chief guest address.

Guests presented certificates to the winners of the Digital Poster and quiz competitions organized by Miss.P.Bharathy at the Department of Geography.

As part of the event, students’ programs including a video clip on Global population growth, a short silent drama on the impact of population growth and migration in Sri Lanka, and a poem were staged by the Second year and third-year students.
