Event:      ‘Access to Justice’- 2022

A mobile service organized by the Ministry of Justice of Sri Lanka in the Jaffna District held on 29 – 30 January 2022. Seventeen participating  institutions including Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka, Ministry of Justice, National Authority for the Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses, Department of Debt Conciliation Board, Office for National Unity and Reconciliation, Office of Missing Persons, Mediation Boards Commission, Office for Reparations, Department of Community Based Corrections, Department for Registration of Persons, Bureau of the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation, Department of Provincial Land Commissioner – Northern Provincial Council, Palmyrah Development Board, Small Enterprises Development Division, Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka, and Registrar General’s Department provided their public services to the people during this mobile service.

Participants: Students and staff of the Department of Geography, University of Jaffna.

.Objective of the Visit:

  • identify the stakeholders and find the opportunities for an integrated partnership collaboration and internship training
  • to educate the students on existing public service activities in the society and to create networking among the students, staff of the department, and the state institutions that would enhance student’s social engagements by participating in their activities.

Outcome of the Visit:

  • Students open discussion with government officials including Secretary, President’s Council, Minister of Justice, and Director General, Office for National Unity and Reconciliation, Ministry of Justice, Sri Lanka.
  • Identified existing stakeholders of the society and enriched student’s knowledge through a head-on dialogue with field workers.
  • Developed a network with stakeholders that would help the department to make a civic society, university, and institutional partnership mechanism to train our students.
